About Hampstead Tuition Centre

I come from a family of teachers on both sides, so teaching was always around me. I started young. I was 16 when I first taught at a tuition centre, helping children through their SATs, and over the years I worked my way up to GCSE and then A-level. At 21 I opened my own centre, and I have been teaching ever since.

I studied Mathematics at Queen Mary University of London. Alongside teaching I have kept studying since, with further courses in financial advisory and in banking and investment finance. It keeps me sharp on the maths and on the harder job, which is making it land for a child who is stuck.

That is eight years and thousands of hours in front of a class. I know what a child looks like the moment a topic clicks, and what they look like five minutes before, when they are about to give up.

Why I wrote these books

Walk into most tuition and the children are working off loose sheets printed from maths websites. A page here, a page there. Nothing holding it together. I taught that way for years, and I watched what it did to the younger ones especially. Nobody had written them a proper book.

So I read the curriculums front to back, year by year, and wrote the books I wish I'd had. The topics go in order. Difficulty climbs one step at a time, so a child is never thrown in too deep and never left guessing what comes next. They get a straight line from where they are now to the grade they are after.

Hadi and I go back years. We met working at the same charity, both of us teaching, and I have run this centre with him from the start. I studied criminology at university, and like Hadi I started teaching at 16. That is about seven years of it now. I work in a school too, and I am finishing my QTS, the teaching qualification.

I teach with a creative head. The same explanation does not land for every child, so I find the one that does. I have worked with children who have learning difficulties too, and I have the patience for it.

You will see me around a lot. I am based at the Hampstead community centre, where our centre sits, and I have been part of that community for years. I run the summer camps. The children warm to me quickly, and so do their parents. If your child takes a while to trust a new teacher, I am usually the one who wins them over first.
